Slow SMTP Even With Correct Details

Sometimes, even with the correct details, SMTP connections can be painfully slow. This is especially more noticeable if the machine sending the email is behind a certain kind of router.

3dpixelnet SMTP services require an authentication username and password in order to send email. smtp.3dpixelnet.com uses the IDENT (IDENTD) protocol. Routers with certain ports blocked restrict this IDENT lookup and cause a massive delay in sending email via SMTP.

The solution is to forward port 113 (TCP) to the local IP of the machine sending the email. Port 113 is the named port for the IDENT lookup. Firewall access may have to be granted to port 113 TCP aswell. SMTP should send within 1 - 2 seconds if this has been done correctly vs the 30 - 60 seconds with the port blocked.
