Apple and VW To Make The iCar?

Ok this may be a joke / lie / windup. (Oh, Really?)

Engadget have a report suggesting Apple are in talks with VW to put their touch interface in future cars made by VW.

Some ideas to get away from VW’s old boxy style?

Yeah, I didn’t think so either. At least if your new iCar rolls over because you’re watching a video however, the display will auto-rotate with you.

New 24″ Imac!

So Mac OSX Leopard finally came about after 18 months of development. 300 new features? OSX is pretty good anyway as it is barring a few niggles. As I’m not in the datacentre as much these days as I used to be, not doing work for 3rd parties, it made more sense for me to plump for a desktop machine versus working on my Macbook Pro every day. Think Hunchback of Notre Dame… The sale of my Macbook pro coupled with the impending release of Mac OSX Leopard meant essentially I could upgrade for a mere £170, so I did.I still can’t deal with the mighty mouse despite Apple’s improvements and it’s superlative cartoon superhero name. It still looks like a squid egg from The Sphere (1998).

Back to my trusty MX1000.

The keyboard is execellent though. As I’m used to typing daily on a Macbook Pro keyboard, switching to this laptop-esque keyboard is no problem. People used to normal sized keyboards may have issues though. It certainly gets around the ’squidgy-ness’ of the old style apple keyboards.

Back to OSX though. Even with the large amount of screen real estate the 24″ screen affords, there is always too many windows. Spaces deals with this very well and is, for me, the most useful new feature of OSX. It’s like Exposé for actual desktops. Few bugs, like some minimised windows won’t reopen when you switch but I think that’s a combination of a .0 release and third party applications. It’s not happened with native OSX applications I might add.

All in all Leopard has impressed me. It feels more like an evolution of 10.4 Tiger than a totally new operating system. This is fine of course, Tiger was and still is excellent.
